Wrap it yourself: everything you need

Wrapping isn't just for professionals: with good vinyl and four tools, anyone can do a pair of wing mirrors, a roof or the interior. Our films are heat-formable with air-release channels against bubbles, which forgives a lot of beginner's mistakes. Here's what you need:

  • The vinyl, in the length for your part.
  • Squeegee Plus with felt edge (€4.80), to press it down without scratching.
  • Cutter (€3.99), to trim.
  • Gloves (€2.99), so you don't leave fingerprints.
  • A hairdryer or heat gun, to warm it.
  • Optional: knifeless tape (€44.95), to cut on the paintwork without a blade.

Where to start

If it's your first time, start with something flat and small: some interior trims or the roof. Leave the wing mirrors and bumpers for later, as they're the most curved parts.

The five steps

  1. Clean and degrease with isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Lay the vinyl in place with some margin.
  3. Press down from the centre outwards with the squeegee.
  4. Warm curves and corners so it stretches.
  5. Trim and seal the edges with heat.

Common mistakes

  • Not degreasing properly: the vinyl won't stick at the edges.
  • Stretching it cold: creases appear.
  • Trimming with the blade on the paint: use knifeless tape.
  • Working in the sun or wind.

Frequently asked questions

Which tools do I need to wrap?

A felt-edged squeegee, a cutter, gloves and a hairdryer or heat gun. For cuts on the paintwork, knifeless tape.

Is it hard to wrap it myself?

Flat parts are easy, even the first time. Curves take heat and patience, and our bubble-free films make it easier.

Which is better, a hairdryer or a heat gun?

A heat gun gives more heat and is quicker; a hairdryer is safer to start with. You can do it with either.

How much vinyl should I order to practise?

Order a little more than you need: for example, 75 cm instead of 50 for the wing mirrors, so you can redo a piece.
