Car roof wrap

A black or carbon roof is the most eye-catching change you can make yourself. 2 m covers the roof of a hatchback, and it comes off whenever you like.

Wrap your car roof

A black roof gives your car the two-tone look of sporty models with a panoramic roof, and it's the best job to start wrapping on your own: a wide, almost flat surface. With our 152 cm wide rolls you cover it in one piece, with no joins. The most popular choices are gloss black, which looks like the tinted glass of a panoramic roof, and Premium gloss black carbon. All of them are professional films, heat-formable and with air-release channels against bubbles.

Which finish?

How much do you need?

  • Small cars and hatchbacks (Fiesta, Polo, Corolla, Golf): 2 m.
  • Saloons and estates: 2 to 3 m.
  • SUVs and MPVs: 3 m.

Measure the roof from windscreen to rear window and add about 20 cm so you can handle it. If you're doing matching wing mirrors or a spoiler too, add 50 cm.

How to wrap a roof

Wash the roof and degrease it with isopropyl alcohol. Lay the film in place, peel the backing off bit by bit and press it down from the centre outwards with the felt-edged squeegee. In the corners and next to the rubber seals, warm the film with a hairdryer or heat gun so it stretches. Trim with a cutter or, better still, knifeless tape so the blade never touches the paint.

Panoramic roofs, roof bars and aerials

On a panoramic roof you only wrap the metal and trim along the glass. Roof bars come off or you trim round them; a shark-fin aerial can be removed or cut round with the cutter. If the roof has side mouldings, tuck the film underneath so the edge stays hidden.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to wrap a car roof?

If you do it yourself, you only pay for the vinyl: 2 m for a hatchback costs €69.99, and 3 m for an SUV €89.99. A wrap shop usually charges €150 to €300 on top for labour.

How long does vinyl last on the roof?

The roof gets more sun than any other part, and even so a quality film lasts several years. Wash by hand or in a brushless car wash and keep the pressure washer away from the edges.

Do I need to tell anyone if I wrap the roof?

No. A roof in a different colour doesn't change the main colour of the car recorded on the registration certificate, so there's nothing to report and no extra test.

Can it be removed without damaging the paint?

Yes. On original paint in good condition it comes off if you warm it with a hairdryer and peel slowly. While it's on, it also protects the paint from the sun and light scratches.
