How much vinyl do I need? The table by part

The question we're asked most often: "how much vinyl do I need?". The answer depends on the part and the vehicle, but some measurements work in almost every case. Our films are sold in rolls 152 cm wide (150 cm for forged carbon): you only need to choose the length.

Full car (small car or hatchback)15 m
Full car (SUV or large estate)18–20 m
Interior door (one side)2–2.5 m
Small kitchen cabinet fronts3–5 m

For a full car, if you also wrap the door shuts, add 2 to 3 m.

How to measure it yourself

  1. Measure the part at its longest and widest points following the curve, with a flexible tape measure. A curve is always longer than a straight line.
  2. Add about 10 cm on each side: that's the spare for holding and stretching the film, which you'll trim off later.
  3. If the part is less than 152 cm wide (spare included), fit it across the width of the roll: only the length matters.
  4. If you have several small parts, draw a rectangle 152 cm wide and fit them inside it like a jigsaw. You'll be surprised how much fits in 50 cm.

Example: a bonnet measuring 140 × 110 cm. With the spare, 160 × 130 cm. As 160 cm won't fit across the 152 cm width, turn the piece round: 130 cm across the width and 160 cm along the length. You need a 2 m roll, and you'll have 40 cm left for the wing mirrors.

The vinyl is sent in one piece, rolled in a tube so it arrives without marks, whatever the length. If you need a length we don't have, for example 10 m, take the next one up: the 15 m roll costs less per metre than two 5 m rolls.

Better too much than too little

If it's your first wrap, order a bit more than the bare minimum. It's normal to waste a piece while you get the hang of it, and buying a small roll later costs more than going one length up in the first place. Also, if you buy the same colour at different times, the shade can vary slightly from batch to batch, which shows on parts next to each other.

Know your length? All the films are on the vinyl by the metre page, or choose by part: roof, bonnet, wing mirrors or full car.
